Local residents helping revive Glen Huntly shopping precinct
We are a group of local Glen Huntly residents that have come together to take action in reviving the Glen Huntly Shopping precinct. The group has been established to discuss improvements that can be made to the Glen Huntly Centre to improve the look, feel and ambience, followed by taking action to drive and make these improvements.
Our values and purpose
1. Bring the local Glen Huntly community together – a joining of like-minded locals who want improvement and investment into our shopping precinct and for it not to be overlooked. Bring a ‘voice’ to our community group.
2. Be proactive and facilitate small wins – we believe we can start with some small wins in beautifying our Glen Huntly Road and shopping precinct, along with support from the Glen Eira Council.
3. Community drive and involvement – bring the community together and involve the local community through our steps and actions.
We want to revive our shopping strip – give it love and make it an attractive shopping precinct that we want to spend time in.
- we embody change
- we are positive
- we are authentic & compassionate
- we are hard working & disciplined

Action with Small Steps Forward
These are some of the areas we believe that are important and we can drive for improvement and take action
1. Lamp posts – cleaned up and painted and then re-painted with artwork.
2. Artwork on bins – artwork added to bin sides and also on communication boxes along Glen Huntly shopping strip.
3. Artwork and murals – along laneways or appropriate sides of buildings.
4. Street lamps – street lighting to be looked at, bringing in really nice lighting along the strip.
5. Garden beds and green vegetation areas with some seating bays.
6. Artwork/Sculptures – added.
7. Pavements – improvement and repairs to side pavements.
8. Utilisation of the new central Glen Huntly train station carparks – this can include for Farmers markets.

Glen Eira Council has published the Glen Eira Placemaking Strategy 2023 -2027 and also Better Streets, Better Places 2023-2033, we want to make sure that these progressive ideas for space and community areas are received in the Glen Huntly Centre soon. Some of these features mentioned in this strategy, to create and support urban living spaces are,
* Activity centres
* Creative lighting
* Micro forests & street closure & canopy trees
* Asphalt artwork & painted laneways
* Pop-up parks
* Flexible colourful seating
* Parklet seating
We want to work with this and add to this.
